Basque pelota is a universally played game, combining several ball games derived from the Jeu de Paume. The superb fronton, in the heart of the village, is still alive and well in Guéthary. It has seen the creation of one of the oldest clubs in the Federation, nicknamed La Mecque du grand chistera. Olharroa has seen many great champions, the most prestigious of whom was Albert Harispe. Today, the club also plays cesta punta and paleta pelote gomme, and every year hosts numerous events, demonstrations and pelota festivals, with ever-growing numbers of players.
