THE TOWING MUSEUM
If touer is a verb meaning "to tow a boat", then touer is the electric boat specialized in towing another boat, and touage is the action of towing. This is the explanation of a little-used word, and for good reason, it is in Riqueval that the last European haul survives. The tour starts with the static exhibition in the heart of a restored old tower and continues to the entrance of the 5,670-metre long Napoleonic tunnel, completed in 1810. The reason for the towing: due to the lack of sufficient ventilation, internal combustion engines are prohibited during the crossing. The two toueurs in operation date from 1918 and 1924 respectively!
