RAINBOW DIVISION MEMORIAL
A memorial featuring a sculpture of a soldier carrying his comrade who died on the battlefield, created by James Butler.
James Butler has created a brilliant, evocative sculpture. It shows a soldier carrying his comrade who died on the battlefield. The artist's spiritual inspiration is evident. The sculpture is a reminder that Fère-en-Tardenois and the surrounding area were severely tested during the First World War. The work is also a tribute to the 42nd Division, nicknamed the Rainbow Division, of the 167th Alabama Infantry Regiment, which served here.
