A dream realized by André Godin, to create a "social palace" for his workers. A very instructive and moving visit.

Le Familistère is a timeless social utopia! André Godin, a former factory worker turned ironmaster, dreamed of a better world for his employees. In 1859, he built the Familistère, a revolutionary "social palace" offering exceptional living conditions for its time. More than 1,500 people lived in harmony in this microcosm, where workers and executives rubbed shoulders on an equal footing. The architecture symbolizes this desire for balance: light is the same in all apartments, whatever the floor. Godin's utopia comes to life: social diversity, hygiene and education are at the heart of the project. There's running water on every floor, a nursery for children and even a co-educational school... Innovations unthinkable at the time, making the Familistère a true haven of peace. A visit to the Familistère takes you back in time to an era when respect and equality were fundamental values. Le Familistère, with its red bricks, schools, theater and swimming pool, is an ode to social harmony. Explore the show apartments and the museum area, then take part in theescape game to experience the building from the inside. Don't miss the May Day Labor Day, a festive and colorful event celebrating the legacy of André Godin. It's a timeless interlude that inspires us to think about a fairer, more caring world.

Incontournable
