LONGPONT CISTERCIAN ABBEY
Dating back to 1131, this Cistercian abbey in Longpont is a majestic, exceptional site steeped in history.
Discovering this majestic site is an experience to be savored. A sumptuous setting awaits you from the forest or from the Soissonnais plateau. All that remains of the 12th-century fortified Cistercian abbey are the ruins of the Gothic abbey church, proudly reaching for the sky. Pay particular attention to the nave, some of the radiating chapels and the monastic buildings remodeled in the 18th century. An exceptional site steeped in history, this abbey was founded in 1131 by Saint Bernard and consecrated the following century in the presence of Saint Louis, who came to warm up. This vast stone construction, partially ruined after the French Revolution, features 13th-century vaulted rooms and a central chimney boiler room, as well as an 18th-century cloister and grand staircase in the residential buildings. A testament to the great achievements of the Cistercian order, this ensemble superbly illustrates two privileged periods of French architecture: the Gothic and the 18th century. A guided tour will enable you to appreciate the history and beauty of the site. Take a stroll through the park, around the pond, and succumb to the charm of an impressive collection of roses. The place is enchanting. The intriguing meeting between the Queen and the Duke of Buckingham in Martin Bourboulon's film Les Trois Mousquetaires: d'Artagnan was immortalized in this sumptuous setting!
