The Mill of the plain was originally a flour mill. It consisted of two wheels, one on each side of the river until 1838, when an application for authorization was filed to transform it into one wheel. On the death of the owner, in 1914, the activity was managed by his widow, who could not prevent the bankrupt from entering the 1920 s. Acquired a few years later by a company (the large mills in Marle), it became the largest mill in the Aisne, with production of more than 400 000 quintals per year.
