THE GHOSTS OF LANDOWSKI
On the Butte Chalmont, a remarkable group of pink granite statues by Paul Landowski. An impressive site to visit at Oulchy.
On the spot where the fate of the Allied troops was decided on July 25 and 26, 1918, on the Chalmont hill, a gigantic group of pink granite statues stands today at an altitude of 155 meters: The Ghosts. Sculpted by Paul Landowski and inaugurated in 1935, the monument commemorates the Allied victory in the second battle of the Marne. Eight 8 m high colossi: seven soldiers, each symbolizing a corps of arms, and the eighth, naked, who is none other than death. A grandiose site.
