CHAPELLE SAINTE-BERTHE
chapel in Pargny-Filain, an ancient pilgrimage site steeped in history.
Built in the 12th century, the Sainte-Berthe chapel in Filain bears witness to a rich past, despite the destruction it has undergone. Associated with a spring renowned for its curative virtues, it was once a place of pilgrimage. Rebuilt after fires in 1814 and 1918, it was also restored in 1871. The spur of Sainte-Berthe was at the heart of the Battle of Malmaison in October 1917. Commemorative plaques honor the combatants, including those of the 19th Battalion of Chasseurs and the 283rd Infantry Regiment.
