OISE-AISNE AMERICAN CEMETERY
American cemetery in a green setting, with 6,012 bodies of American soldiers, considered a place filled with respect.
Still in the midst of commemorating the centenary of the First World War, a stop to remember and honor the 6,012 bodies of American soldiers who lie here. 597 are still unidentified, and 241 names engraved on the memorial remind us that some were never found. Joyce Kilmer, an American journalist and man of letters, who died at the age of 31 during the Second Battle of the Marne, was buried here. Until 1987, the body of Eddie Slovik was also laid to rest in this verdant setting. He was the only American soldier executed during the Second World War after being convicted of desertion. A place filled with respect.
