THE CASTLE OF NESLES
The feudal castle of Nesles, which was classified as a historical monument in 1922, is none other than the twin brother of the royal castle of Dourdan in the Essonne from an architectural point of view. This is not surprising since the latter was taken as a model by the Count of Dreux, builder of the Château de Nesles. The architecture is of a military type, and called "Filipino", in reference to Philippe Auguste (1165-1223). Its enclosure was designed for battle: a solid square 69 metres wide and flanked by eight towers. The dungeon will also impress you. It is separated from the enclosure (one of the characteristics of Philippine architecture), in order to symbolize autonomous power.
