THE CAMELS OF THE FAY ESTATE
Dromedaries to enjoy the most varied attractions of the Thiérache region in Thenailles.
Go on an adventure on camels! Olivier Philipponeau, camel driver, trainer and owner of dromedaries, and his funny caravan never go unnoticed in Thenailles. Offer your children an amazing ride. The caravan of familiar dromedaries will take you along the paths, allowing you to fully enjoy the most varied attractions of the Thiérache. Unique moments for individuals or groups, from the simple initiation to the educational and practical formula to discover the dromedary around the care, the grooming, the body control and the gestural-barking. In the riding school, man and dromedary learn from each other. The objective is to maintain self-control in front of the animal in order to handle it on the ground, to ask it to groom itself and then to saddle it and ride it. Are you an experienced rider? Come and discover how to ride the dromedary at a walk, amble and gallop. After safety explanations, ride the camel on the black sand track of Le Fay. Three to five laps of the track will allow you to familiarize yourself with this discipline. All the workshops are carried out in a controlled environment, with very well trained camels, under the supervision of a seasoned camel driver.
They enjoy the company of humans as soon as they are used to meeting them from birth. They have much more interaction with humans than other livestock species, with the possible exception of horses. If they are well tamed, then they are affectionate animals. The more interaction the animal has, the less stress it suffers. Research has shown that handling animals, such as getting into a truck or entering a holding pen, causes less stress if the animals are used to human contact. Dromedaries do not like rain, so breeders in Europe should provide shelter in wet weather. However, they are not afraid of water, they swim very well. In Kazakhstan, they like to take mud baths. In very cold weather, they generate heat by using the fat of their humpback, which is metabolized to produce what is called extra heat. This is why, in anticipation of winter, the animal must build up its fat reserves and fill its hump. It is therefore important to provide a good diet, rich in energy, during the fall.
