The church was built in 1173 and was the chapel of the castle built by Philippe d'Alsace and dedicated to Saint-Maur. Like the castle, she suffered very hard from the Hundred Years War and was restored at the beginning of the th century. It was entrusted to the Premonstratensian of Clairefontaine in Thiérache, after the destruction of their abbey by the Spanish. The nuns had the burden of the parish until 1790. Used as martin during the Revolution, the church was made to worship shortly before Alexander Dumas was baptized on August 18, 1802.
