NOTRE-DAME-DE-L'ASSOMPTION CATHEDRAL
Cathedral of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption in Lescar, classified as a historical monument in 1840, with a romantic organ of 1,650 pipes.
Romanesque cathedral built from 1120 which has a great diversity of medieval decorations. Built in sandstone of Lasseube (beautiful white stone) its nave is vaulted in full arch and its side aisles in transverse cradles. Its sculpted capitals, its ornate windows and its mysterious mosaic known as the little Moorish hunter are remarkable. The cathedral also contains the tombs of the last Kings of Navarre, including those of Henri II d'Albret and Marguerite d'Angoulême, the grandparents of King Henri IV. Note its romantic organ composed of 1650 pipes.
