ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Museum displaying the fruits of archaeological digs in the town of Lescar, with everyday objects such as jewelry
Lescar now boasts a museum displaying the fruits of archaeological excavations carried out on the site of Beneharnum, the name of the ancient Béarn of which it was the capital. On display are furnishings from the Villa Saint-Michel, a Gallo-Roman residence to the east of the town, as well as mosaics and sigillated ceramics. Everyday objects such as coins, bronze jugs, fibulae and jewelry are also on display. In 2012, the museum was enriched by the collection of Jacques Seigne, an archaeologist who led excavations around Artix and Lourenties in the 1970s. The museum is housed in the exceptional setting of the former cellars of the bishop's palace. A wonderful visit guaranteed!
