NOTRE-DAME DE LA BASSE-ŒUVRE CHURCH
There are only three of the nine original spans of its nave, but it is one of the few vestiges of Carolingian inspiration. Frescoes were to animate its walls, and a number of fragments were found, including a man of remarkable quality to see in the treasure of St. Peter's cathedral. The building is built according to the techniques of the time, with Gallo-Roman remplois, such as pastoureaux, these small cubic stones coming from ancient monuments. The facade, reworked in 1050 after a fire, is illuminated by a large bay on which three enigmatic characters are embedded. After a last fire in 1225, the bishop and chapter decided to raise a new Gothic work, killing his choir and transept; Six of its spans were also destroyed in the th century when Martin Chambiges built his transept. The stop of the work of Saint-Pierre Cathedral in 1605 saves the last three spans of the nave of the Lower Works, transformed into a parish church. Sold as a national property in 1794, it was acquired by the State in 1840 which, after restoration, made it to worship in 1867.
