ANCIENT WALL
One can still admire a part of the ancient enclosure dating from the beginning of the th century and was built to protect the city from barbarian invasions. After the Second World War, it was possible to release part of the wall. At the time, the fortifications surrounded a range of 10 hectares, they were extended from square towers to angles and 14 semicircular towers. There was access by two doors (from Limançon and Terai) located at each end of Saint-Pierre street. A good excuse for a day and night ride, because the lighting highlights their recent restoration. You can also see some of these relics in the National Tapestry Gallery where it has been skillfully integrated.
Two red marks are visible on the sidewalk of Philippe-de-Dreux street, on each side of Saint-Pierre Street, between the Gallery and the Saint-Barthélemy College. They reflect the towers of the fortifications: they are called the "ghost of the rampart"!
