MUSEE VIVANT DU CHEVAL
Museum featuring rare works of art, equestrian equipment and a great trail for youngsters.
If the Château de Chantilly is the spectacular and splendid venue that many are familiar with, its equestrian activities also include a museum, probably one of the most sought-after in the world in this field. Showcasing the evolution of the horse's place in civilization, it boasts numerous rooms, and has undergone a vast transformation with the aim of making the collections accessible to as many people as possible, whether you're a novice or an expert on the subject. You can discover a room dedicated exclusively to saddles and the art of their manufacture, another on the history of venery, completely redesigned in 2023, splendid harnesses and the history of equestrian shows. Since September 2024, the museum has gone one step further, offering new spaces. The famous racecourse has been completely refurbished, and features such marvels as the fully restoredAscot Gold Cup dating from 1874, and the portrait of Gladiateur, the first French winner of the English derby, in 1865. At the same time, polo has been given a new space, and a room invites you to discover the anatomy of the horse, including a life-size skeleton. If possible, we recommend you combine your visit with one of the incredible shows put on by the château's equestrian company, to make your stay here a complete and enchanting experience. Just an hour from Paris, the Musée Vivant is the French must-see in this field.
