ATELIER DU CLAVECIN
Laurent Soumagnac manufactures and restores harpsichords in the Atelier du Clavecin. This passionate "art of the gesture" has been expressing his know-how for more than 40 years. L'Atelier du Clavecin was awarded the label Entreprise du patrimoine vivant in 2008.
History. In 1971, Laurent Soumagnac met Hubert Bédard, restorer at the Musée instrumental de Paris. This meeting was decisive: she decided on her choice of professional life. Hubert Bédard became his "master" and gave him the desire to learn. Since 1975, Laurent Soumagnac, harpsichord maker and restorer, has had a passion for his craft, which led him in 2004 to the national "Restoration and Conservation" award of the Institut national des métiers d'arts (ex-SEMA).
The products. Founder of the Atelier du Clavecin, Laurent Soumagnac creates, year after year, his own models: French spruce, Italian harpsichord, Flemish and French harpsichord, with one and two keyboards. Each one is customizable. It has also built up a fleet of rental instruments composed of harpsichords and baroque organs. Concerts, festivals, recordings, in France and abroad, ensure that the instruments are in the capable hands of high-level performers. Artists play, criticize, comment, suggest and contribute to the improvement of the musical quality of the instruments and the precision of the settings.
