MENNECHET CASTLE
This neo-Renaissance castle, a munitions depot during the Second World War, has its ruined façade covered with vegetation.
The ruined facade covered by the vegetation does not fail to intriguing by passing on the departmental. You might think of an old Asian temple abandoned to nature or an adventure movie theater, with a wall and a vacuum behind it. The site does not visit, but it is visible from the outside and your questions will be lifted by the explanatory plate located in front of the grid. In 1880, Alphonse Mennechet de Barival (1812-1903), mayor of Chiry, launched a gallery to house his collection of paintings, sculptures and earthquakes. Unfinished at the time of his death, the Neo-Renaissance Castle was severely damaged during the Great War. He even served as a munitions repository during the Second World War and was left behind. It has been classified as a historic monument since 2010.
