IMPERIAL THEATER
The Imperial Theater enjoys exceptional acoustic quality, and is even described as one of the most perfect scenes of the world by illustrious musicians. If the building ordered by Napoleon III remains unfinished (its construction began in 1866 at the time of the war against Prussia), the Imperial Theater as it has been passed on to us is nevertheless required as an architectural work of major interest. It is distinguished first by its unique dimensions (its 13 meter stage opening is equal to the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris), and then through its ingenious system of metal constructions for the upper parts of the building. After almost 120 years of almost total sleep, the theater was completed and opened in 1991 to become an internationally recognized site for the quality of its programming. A very nice photo book has just been devoted to it. You can also find out behind the scenes and basements at events or exhibitions, and enjoy a different look at this exceptional place.
