MUSÉE GALLÉ-JUILLET - MAISON DE LA FAÏENCE
Museum offering great events such as escape games, photo sessions, children's workshops...
On the site of the town's former fortified castle lies the Musée Gallé-Juillet, which has been awarded the Musée de France label and comprises the Maison Gallé-Juillet and the Maison de la Faïence. The Maison Gallé-Juillet, with its 19 rooms, takes us back in time to the everyday life of a 19th-century bourgeois family, right up to the First World War. The guided tour (compulsory) provides all the elements for a fascinating immersion experience. The collection consists of furniture and objets d'art. The team in charge of the premises is also highly creative, offering a wide range of activities including an hour-long escape game, an hour-and-a-half-long Explor game, and workshops for children... Find out in advance of your visit what activities are available for children or for the whole family!
You can visit the Maison de la Faïence with or without a guide and discover the history of Creil's fine earthenware (opaque porcelain, black stoneware, fine earthenware, printed and painted decorations, etc.), of which only a third of the thousand pieces in the collection are on display. The reputation of the Creil faience factory goes back a long way, even appearing in Gustave Flaubert's L'Éducation sentimentale. The museum also features areas retracing the town's history, with displays of Gallo-Roman treasures, the Creil lock and photographs highlighting the town's working-class and industrial heritage.
