ECOMUSEUM OF THE ASPE VALLEY
A space that offers the possibility to discover the Pyrenees through the agricultural and pastoral life of the 19th century
The ecomuseum of Lourdios-Ichère is one of the four must-see sites in the Aspe valley. This space offers the possibility to discover a typical village of the Pyrenees through the agricultural and pastoral life of the 19th century until today. Texts and photos allow you to analyse different elements of the architecture in order to conceive the history of the town but also of this part of the Pyrenees. Through the writings of Jean Barthou, secretary of the town hall at the time, you will dive into it in a captivating way with a prestigious character. Mountain activities are presented through the wheel of seasons, from fields to transhumance, as well as tools related to pastoral life. A 20-minute film unveils the secrets of the shepherd: the visit is very playful. At the museum, you will be greeted by a country storyteller. You can also take a walk in the forest of Issaux or possibly take part in the stroll in the craftsmen's quarter to see what you have learned! Each visitor leaves with a wool, a schist and a fern: souvenirs linked to the animal, the mineral and the vegetable, the symbols of the village.
