Lille Métropole's museum of modern art, contemporary art and art brut, with a collection unique in the world.
After forty years of existence, the LaM museum is undergoing a significant transformation in response to environmental challenges. A vast renovation project has been launched to improve the welcome and comfort of visitors, while making the museum and its grounds more accessible. Work began in 2024, and the museum and grounds will be closed from October onwards. This initiative is part of a Metropole Européenne de Lille plan, which has already reduced electricity consumption by 27.35% thanks to the installation of LEDs. Renovations will include the restoration of facades and glazing, as well as the reorganization of reception areas. During the closure, the museum will continue to offer off-site activities, and part of the collection will be exhibited both regionally and internationally. The reopening is scheduled for early 2026, with an exhibition devoted to Vassily Kandinsky, in partnership with the Centre Pompidou.
Lille Métropole's Museum of Modern, Contemporary and Outsider Art is distinguished by its sober architecture and its grounds, home to works by great sculptors such as Picasso and Calder. With over 7,000 works by artists such as Georges Braque, Amedeo Modigliani and Joan Miró, LaM offers a unique panorama of art from the 20th and 21st centuries. Its collection of art brut, one of the most important in Europe, features anonymous works alongside great names such as Aloïse Corbaz and André Robillard. With its varied cultural program, LaM stimulates curiosity and emotion in everyone.
