MASCARAÀS CASTLE
On its fortified hill, it faces the Pyrenees and its exceptional framework already justifies the visit: 25 hectares around it, between park with French, Italian and English-style gardens, it is a delight… that in hiding others. The vineyard of the house is dedicated to Madiran and Pacherenc Vic-Bilh and an old chai is also one of the only remaining in the state. The site is wonderful, you understand it and this castle registered in Historical Monuments dates back to the th and th centuries, which bequeathed its current appearance. In the Middle Ages, he was a strong house before serving as a hunting relay to Jeanne d'Albret, the mother of King Henri IV. He was even the seat of an abbey and baronnie and has kept absolutely fabulous interior interiors: numerous marble fireplaces of Arudy, Italian decor painted on chestnut panelling, mythological lounge whose woodwork are covered by a suite of paintings illustrating the theme of love, Basque and Béarnais furniture, Gothic sculptures, library exhibiting antique binders, rare editions and incunables engravings. A real walk in the heart of the Béarn.
