GALLO-ROMAN THEATER
Theater that can accommodate about 5,000 spectators and has a sacellum as a reminder of its religious role in antiquity.
When you see these fields as far as the eye can see on each side, it is not easy to imagine that a Gallo-Roman settlement here extended over 130 hectares and included several monuments (with squares, temples, baths...). This theatre, built in the 1st century, was in the shape of a semicircle (with a diameter of 81 m) and could accommodate about 5,000 spectators. Facing the impressive stage, a sacellum (a sort of small chapel) recalls the religious role of the theatre in Antiquity. This visit is to be combined with that of the neighbouring archaeological museum, where you will be told that this site has only been truly rediscovered and exploited since the 1950s!
