OAR FACTORY
A historic monument that evokes an old rack factory. When at the request of Colbert, Dutch industrialist Josse Van Robais moved to Abbeville, rue de l 'Hôtel-de-Ville in 1665, he brought his know-how, equipment and fifty workers. In order to consolidate the workshops that were previously dispersed, his son built the buildings of the so-called Rames factory from 1709 to 1714, Hocquet Road. It is one of the most remarkable testimonies of the industrial architecture of the eighteenth century. From the street you can see the gate of the entrance to the main court. The sculpture of the door tympan evokes the conquest of the Golden Toison and alludes to the maritime trade of the factory whose production was highly valued abroad.
