VALLEY GARDENS
A huge park designed by Gilles Clément in 1987, boasting over five thousand species and varieties of plants.
In the Authie valley, next to the Cistercian abbey of Valloires, you'll find the Valloires gardens. Designed by Gilles Clément in 1987, this immense eight-hectare park actually boasts five gardens, each with a different atmosphere. In all, over five thousand species and varieties of plants can be found on the site, making it one of the largest plant collections in France. Most of them originating from Asia and North America, they are the pride of the Valloires gardens. French, English or exotic, meadow, marsh garden reminiscent of the Authie River, garden of the five senses or the sublime rose garden, everything is conducive to discovery and wonder. Ranging from white to red, the rose garden boasts a large collection of old and wild roses in pastel shades, from the fragrant Jacques Cartier to the Jardins de Valloires rose christened by Catherine Deneuve in 1992. A stroll through the garden in summer is a pleasure for both the eye and the sense of smell. You can learn more about the species on display in the path booklet available at reception. Want to find out more? Don't miss the guided tours with real enthusiasts who will help you understand the history of the gardens, recognize the rare and emblematic plants of the Valloires site and better understand the interactions with nature. It's a great way to get away from it all, on your own, as a couple or with the whole family!
