MORLANNE CASTLE
Medieval castle of stone and brick, an example of a febusian construction, protected as a Historic Monument
It is surely one of the most beautiful examples of "fébusienne" construction. A medieval fortress of stone and brick built in 1373 to protect this free part of Bearn from English attacks during the Hundred Years' War, it featured a 25-meter high keep-gate. After multiple alterations through the centuries, the castle has become a welcoming place to live and its new owners, Hélène and Raymond Ritter, began a major renovation program, attempting to recreate the original architecture as early as 1970. Completely renovated, the castle now houses the important Ritter collection of nearly 600 pieces of art.
