SAINT-GERMAIN-D'AUXERRE CHURCH
Church with polychrome walls, vaults traced with ivy and tiercerons, decorated arches
When Henri II of Albret destroys the church of Navarrenx, he replaces it by Saint-Germain of Auxerre then endowed with a bell-tower-wall (replaced in 1734 by a bell-tower-gate). It is transformed into temple on order of Jeanne d' Albret in 1563. It was not until 1620 that Catholic worship was re-established. Plundered during the Revolution, it was used as a defensive retreat in 1814. It has polychrome walls, vaults decorated with ivy and tiercerons, and decorated arches.
