HOLY CROSS CHURCH
Church built at the end of the 11th century in the vicomte town, with a remarkable ribbed dome in the shape of a star
Set in the medieval district of Sainte-Croix (established in 1080) and listed as a Historical Monument in 1846, the Sainte-Croix church was built at the end of the eleventh century in the viscontal city. The pure Romanesque building still shows a remarkable ribbed star-shaped dome with eight branches of hispano-moorish inspiration, recalling the Cordoué mosque. This Mozarabic dome unique in France with the one set near the church, the Hôpital Saint-Blaise, in Soule. This church has been massively renovated for fifteen years and recently, it was the paintings of the presbytery that were changed, as well as the adjoining chapels, and the arms of the transept, a cupola supported by ribs arranged in star with 8 branches, with a trompe l'oeil decoration, depicting it of Scallops, an architectural element, almost unique in France as well as the alter-piece restored in gold leaf.
