HERITAGE HOUSE
Archaeological, ethnographic and historical museum, one of the remarkable houses of Oloron-Sainte-Marie.
The medieval garden and its medicinal plants set the tone, here you can meet Iluro, the local lords and, of course, the traditions of Béarnaise. In this residence of character, very beautiful remains of the 12th century serve as a setting for the collections. On the first floor, you will find the portraits of the families of the notables of Oloron, in the woodwork room, you can admire the latter which are perfectly preserved. A presentation of the great archaeological discoveries made in the town and its surroundings begins the visit, oil lamps, coins or mosaics punctuate your steps. They lead you to the heart of a traditional Béarnaise cuisine reconstituted. A room is dedicated to the craft textile activity: the traditions of Béarnaise and local craftsmanship, including those related to espadrilles and wool work, are explained to you with precision. Finally, on the second floor, a permanent exhibition retraces the history of the Gurs camp. The Heritage House, or Marque House, is a real small archaeological, ethnographic and historical museum. The Heritage House, like the neighbouring Grède Tower, is one of Oloron-Sainte-Marie's remarkable residences.
