THE HOUSE CHRESTIA
A house that reveals a more intimate side of the writer
Born in 1868 in the Hautes-Pyrénées, poet Francis Jammes lived most of his life in the Béarn and Basque regions. In Orthez, his name is intimately linked to the town, proud of its illustrious artist who played with words with brio. Christa's house is first and foremost a magnificent 18th-century Béarn residence, where he lived from 1897 to 1907, describing it as "a little hermitage of ivy". This visit is an opportunity to discover a more intimate side of the writer Francis Jammes, as you'll find personal objects, musical scores, a large collection of manuscripts, didactic paintings and a bookshop counter.
