REMAINS OF THE FORTRESS OF HAM
The fortress, of which only a few remains remain today after its destruction by German troops in 1917, is best known as a state prison. Within these cold stone walls, seditious writers and controversial politicians were locked up. Among the famous prisoners, the revolutionary writer Mirabeau or Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, the future Napoleon III. This one feeds one of the most famous anecdotes of the city: locked up for six years in the castle (1840-1846), he managed to escape by taking the appearance of Badinguet, a worker who worked in his service! Next to it, Napoleon Park offers a pleasant walk along the Somme.
