If you thought mosquitoes only bit, think again! The World Mosquito Program (WMP) is giving them an altogether heroic role. Thanks to the Wolbachia method, these insects are becoming allies in the fight against diseases such as dengue fever, Zika and yellow fever. The secret: mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia bacteria, unable to transmit viruses. When they reproduce, they eventually replace wild mosquitoes, protecting millions of people. With operations in 14 countries and a team of 15 employees in Pau, France, WMP transforms these little pests into veritable protectors of public health.
