CHURCH OF SANTIAGO
Church dedicated to the apostle Saint Jacques illustrating the urban extension of Pau in the 19th century, with an organ inaugurated in 1999
Dedicated to the apostle Saint-Jacques, this church replaced in 1861 the old chapel of the Cordeliers which welcomed the pilgrims of Compostelle. It illustrates the urban expansion of Pau in the 19th century. At that time, no one was unaware of the steeple war that opposed it to the church of Saint-Martin... The interior is rich: a Gothic pulpit, an organ inaugurated in 1999, crosses of consecration in marble of Arudy, steles in massive oak of Mignou and paintings of Mauricet illustrating the life of Saint Jacques. The west bell tower supports a drone of 3 580 kg! The sumptuous 17 m spires were restored after the 1999 storm. Climb the steps, this church is worth a visit!
