AUSTRALIAN MEMORIAL - GIBRALTAR BLOCKHOUSE
A tribute to the Australian Division, which took part in the capture of the village along with the British Division at Pozières.
The Australian Memorial is a tribute to the 1st Australian Division who took part in the capture of the village with the 48th British Division. The path to the memorial is the first trench in the German scheme defended by what was once the Gibraltar Blockhouse (one of two observation sites in the area), the foundations of which are still visible. Australian soldiers successfully captured it on 14 July 1916. From here you can walk around Pozières' main historic sites. Since 2017, a memorial also pays tribute to all Australian animals who died in World War I.
