An old Benedictine abbey from the 7th century with a flamboyant gothic abbey church and beautiful wall paintings.

The ancient Benedictine abbey of Saint-Riquier, founded in the 7th century, offers exhibitions and a renowned classical music festival. The abbey church also illustrates all the stages of the Picardy flamboyant Gothic style that is the pride of the Centulois (inhabitants of Saint-Riquier). The treasury is richly decorated with luxurious furniture and contains extraordinary wall paintings! The park, of about 3 hectares, is in free access and offers temporary installations.

La façade est incroyablement décorée, elle mérite qu'on s'y attarde ! L'intérieur donne une impression de majesté, de douceur propice à la réflexion et au recueillement.

Alors qu'est ce que c'est beau, par chance c'était ouvert à la visite notre jour. Sinon dès l'arrivée en dehors de la ville vous pouvez voir cet édifice majestueux et sur la place en se garant quelle surprise, c'est grandiose et magnifique. Surement très récemment rénové cette abbaye vous incite à y entrer, une nef très haute un autel richement décoré et sculpté, de belles chapelles en son intérieur, de grandes orgues, tout y ait, grand moment et cela appelle à la curiosité de tout contempler. ne pas manquer de visiter aussi ses extérieurs et le jardin très bien entretenu et voir ses arbres fruitiers (beaucoup de sortes de pommes lors de notre visite) et un bel espace naturel. vraiment un superbe endroit, à ne pas rater.

L'abbatiale de Saint Riquier qui trône au milieu de cette petite bourgade est magnifique et très bien rénovée. Il parait que Charlemagne lui même y serait passé ! Si vous passez à proximité en Juillet ne ratez surtout pas le festival de musique classique qui regroupe des musiciens d'un niveau mondial.
Saint Riquier est un endroit parfait pour se replonger dans l'histoire (abbatiale, abbaye, beffroi, maison d'un grognard de l'armée de Napoléon dont la toiture à la forme de son chapeau...) et dans la culture (le musée à côté de l'abbaye propose régulièrement des expositions très intéressantes. Parfait pour une balade en famille !
