THE EZKERRENEA HOUSE
The town's oldest private noble residence, with a 3-storey stone tower and Romanesque doorway
This private house is the oldest in the town and has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1996. Located on rue de la République, it is the only survivor of the town's 1558 Spanish fire. This noble house, with its tower, is made entirely of stone and features 3 storeys, mullioned windows, a Romanesque door and a spiral staircase. It was owned by the Claret family (mayor during the French Revolution) and is also known as the former gendarmerie. The first floor houses a restaurant, while the interior has been converted into apartments. It is not open to the public.
