LA MAISON DE L’INFANTE
The residence in Saint-Jean-de-Luz that welcomed the Infanta Maria-Theresa of Spain for her marriage to King Louis XIV in 1660
Close to the Place Louis XIV and facing the port, this Joanoenia mansion received the infanta Maria Theresa of Spain at her wedding to the king in 1660. The story goes that she stayed here from June 7 to 9, 1660. Its pink brick and stone façade is reminiscent of the charming Italian palaces. It was built thanks to the contribution of a wealthy shipowner, Johannot de Haraneder, who could monitor the movement of his trading and whaling ships. His coat of arms is engraved above the entrance door. The house is registered as a historical monument.
