MUSEUM OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF CHARENTE
Museum housing a fine collection of enamels, objects and relics from all periods, including the statue of the goddess Epona
The museum of the Société archéologique et historique de la Charente has existed since 1845, and has changed location several times. Since the post-war period, it has been located on rue de Montmoreau, in the house of Jean George, who bequeathed his home to the Société archéologique et historique de la Charente. Most of the collection comes from gifts and bequests, making it an atypical museum, as Renaissance cabinets of curiosity might have been. It boasts a fine collection of enamels, ironwork and Roman and medieval lapidary.
