Refuge with gîte in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port offering a sublime view of the mountains from the garden.

On presentation of your credential, stamped at number 39 on the same street, you can go and sleep in this refuge. It offers a rest and reading room, two dormitories for ten and six people, and a double room. Housed in this 17th-century building, formerly the citadel's infirmary, near the Porte Saint-Jacques, it is the city's1st historic refuge, with a sublime view of the mountains from a garden on the ramparts. A useful break in an adapted refuge.

Excelente, para ser un albergue que sirvan el desayuno... Únicamente un vecino molesto por la madrugada...

There were no more beds on the first or second floor, so I had to stay in the downstairs basement, such literally looked like a dungeon, with one other guy who wasn't too friendly. There is no one servicing the place to ask questions, instead you just stick your money in a box and find your bed. Quite a welcome for the first day of the Camino, but I was expecting some like that lol. Looking back, Saint Jean would probably be the only place I would not stay in the municipal alburgue. The town of Saint Jean is really quiet for being the official starting point of the Camino.
