The town of Chabanais has a memorial to the battles of 1944 that is a must-see during the walk
As you stroll through Chabanais, you'll spot the half-timbered house (rue Palant-Lamirande), the old staircase of the late Saint-Sébastien church, and the hamlet of La Quintinie, named after Jean de La Quintinie, born in Chabanais and creator of the Versailles vegetable garden, who was appointed Director of Gardens by Louis XIV.
You'll also discover the monument commemorating the fighting of 1944. On August1, 1944, during the Battle of Chabanais, Colonel Bernard's maquisards successfully repelled the German division, destroying the bridge in the process.
