MUSEUM OF COGNAC ARTS
Visit recommended! To discover Cognac in a transversal way through its history, its evolutions and beautiful collections.
The museum of the arts of cognac is located in the heart of the old town in the beautiful Perrin de Boussac hotel which belonged to the Augier family and on the site of the Marett cellars. It combines classical architecture (façade listed as a historical monument) and a contemporary intervention that backs onto the 17th century rampart. This museum allows you to know everything about this famous brandy, from its origin to its land, its trade, its history, its elaboration and the imagination that it arouses. At the same time, you can discover the history of the town, its economic and industrial development, its architectural heritage... Two models show the evolution of the medieval city up to its commercial explosion in the 18th century, including the castle of François I and the Saint-Jacques bridge. The next room presents the area around Cognac and lists the various points of interest in these communes, vineyards, Romanesque art, ancient monuments and cycle routes. The rooms follow one another according to certain themes relayed by sounds, smells, visuals..., where one understands the impact of the beverage in the region. Indeed, cognac has induced all sorts of activities, industries and know-how, combining technology and tradition, history and modernity, such as the famous invention of the bottle-blowing machine by Claude Boucher. It is the ideal visit to complete the one you will not fail to make in one of the cellars of the great cognac houses nearby..

C'est un musée très instructif et la visite ne s'éternise.
