ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH

How beautiful this church of Criteuil! This could be said from many other Romanesque churches, but it has typed us in the eye with its steeple, rather rare, octagonal pierced by twin bays. On the façade, above the portal, détache the inscription "The French people recognize the supreme being and the immortality of the soul. " This inscription dates from the Revolution when the building became a Temple of Reason, cult intended to replace Catholicism. The interior is filled with numerous pieces of terracotta liturgical furniture in the th century to replace the furniture destroyed during the Revolution. These pieces were heavily décriées and displaced from most churches except in Criteuil.
