TOURIST INFORMATION OFFICE
Tourist information office offering a wide range of activities and a vast choice of restaurants to discover the local gastronomy
Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle enjoys an exceptional geographical location. Ideally situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees, it offers a complementary sea-mountain setting, ideal for your vacations in the Basque Country. The rapidly expanding commune of 7,519 inhabitants offers a wide range of accommodation - hotels, campsites, B&Bs, gîtes... - on a vast and varied territory. In the heart of the village, you'll discover typical old Basque houses and the remains of a 13th-14th century castle, nicknamed the "Witch's Castle" because it was the site of a witchcraft trial in 1609. The Amotz district and its chapel dedicated to Marie Madeleine also bear witness to Saint-Pée's rich past. The town's fronton, a major chistera venue since 1857, will thrill you with its Basque pelota games. And that's not all: the Lac de Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle is a paradise for relaxation and leisure, where you can enjoy accrobranche, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming and other aquatic activities... A whole range of activities and leisure activities to delight young and old alike. In May, around the lake, the Herri Urrats festival supports the Basque language and ikastolas (Basque schools). The town also offers a wide choice of restaurants where gourmets can enjoy and discover the local gastronomy. Full advice and information is available from the Tourist Office.
