Basque pelota brings together several ball games derived from the game of paume. Pelota is a universal game that the Basques have adapted and transformed. It can be played face-to-face or against a wall, indoors or outdoors, with bare hands, or using a variety of instruments. Novices will learn about the history of pala, while locals will take a trip back in time thanks to Jakes Cazaubon and Pierre Sabalo, and Pello Fagoaga's attic. 45 minutes of unforgettable sound and light!

July/August: open 7/7 Monday to Saturday 9.30am/11.30pm and 2pm/5pm; Sundays and public holidays 9.30am/11.30pm. Adults: €5. Children (5 to 12 years): €2.50. Groups (minimum 10 people): adults €3, children (5 to 12) €2. The PILOTARI Ecomuseum is located at the St Pée sur Nivelle tourist office, against the Place Libre fronton in the village. Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle lies at the crossroads of the major communication routes that link its villages. Everyone has their own history with Basque pelota, but our village's geographical location means it has played a special role in this game, which, along with language, song and dance, is the foundation of the Basque soul.
Gantxiki, a thirteen-year-old senpertar and son of a blacksmith, had the idea while playing with his friend Halsouet from the Donamartia farm to use a small wicker basket to throw the pelota further.
