The charentaise has been given a makeover. If the tartan pattern still has its place, discover how it has evolved with the times.
A symbol of comfort and Charente ! The Charentaise was born from the recycling of the waste from the Royal Arsenal of Rochefort and the paper industry of Charente. In the 17th century, charentaises were nicknamed "the silent ones", allowing to move without noise. In 2020, L'Atelier Charentaises was inaugurated in La Rochefoucauld. Book your visit with the tourist office to discover the manufacture of charentaises in cousu-retourné (which earned it a PGI).
