ROCKFOUCAULD CASTLE
This building is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful French castles of Renaissance style
The castle of La Rochefoucauld is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful French castles of Renaissance style. This superb property has belonged to the La Rochefoucauld family for a thousand years. Monumental Renaissance staircase, boudoir of Marguerite de Valois, immense kitchen dug in the karst, ceremonial rooms, guard room, library of the XVIIIth century, galleries of 1520... The castle offers several architectural interests but the most spectacular is certainly in the court. There are three superimposed Italian-style galleries, very rare in France. A must-see is the magnificent and very rare library. A real pearl. These arrangements were made at the time of François II de La Rochefoucauld, godfather of the king of France, François I, and his wife Anne de Polignac. The current owner, Sonia Matossian, has added her own touch to the building with the creation of a glass dungeon by the architect of the Louvre pyramid, Ieoh Ming Pei. Recent work has allowed the opening of the Countess de Poulignac's bedroom and its adjoining bathroom to visitors.
