THE CRYPT OF THE BAYAÀ
Crypt visit includes a 15-minute film retracing the history of the basin and Salisian traditions...
This crypt was created in 1865. Originally, the Bayaà saltwater spring was accessible via an open-air basin from which the local inhabitants drew their water. In the 19thcentury , doctors promoted the virtues of this water, creating a form of spa tourism. But the open basin was often dirty, so a vault was built over it. The tour includes a short 15-minute film retracing the history of the basin and Salisian traditions, the history of water and salt in the town from antiquity to the present day, and its importance in local life. Finally, you'll descend beneath Salies' main square to discover this little-known site.
