MUSEUM OF SALT AND TRADITIONS IN BÉARNAISES
Museum with a geological collection that reveals why there is salt in Salies
The exploitation of natural salt water has always been the major activity of the city. The museum evokes the history of this white gold from protohistory to the 17th century. You will find its epic through archaeology, the regulation of the Salt Fountain on a text of 1587 which allowed each family to receive an equal share of salt water, the birth and development of the city. A workshop of salt shaper completes the presentation whose fireplace is lit for the big events. On the first floor, the era of thermalism is honored. A must-see!
